TRADITIONAL HIGH FIRED TERRACOTTA

Even though Australian coastal winters are not that harsh our pots from Crete are frost resistant, made with top grade clay and fired traditionally using olive pips and grape seeds to over 1150°C. This means they are designed to last and, as well as being suitable for colder areas, are eminently suitable as water features.

The pots are hand-made employing the same techniques and designs used more than 3000 years ago by the Minoans. The clay has a high mineral content which results in a beautiful light sand colour as well durability and strength. These clay pots from Crete will age beautifully. They will slowly release mineral salts that adds to their individuality. With time moss and algae will colonise the pot. This is part of the natural ageing process for a clay pot. If weathered for many years a beautifully aged patina will evolve.

Sometimes larger planters come out of the kiln with non-structural firing cracks in the base, which do not affect the integrity of the pots. These cracks are filled and blended for cosmetic purposes.

Plants such as bamboo, strelitzia, and other vigorous rooted plants will eventually outgrow and damage the planter if not repotted as they become too large. Failure to do so may void warranty.

To clean use a mild soapy water and a soft bristle brush or rag. Avoid harsh chemical and abrasives.

Finishes may vary from those shown in picture.
