The Beach Road space could be described as Californian with hints of the tropical, not a garden you will see in any landscape design textbook.

The space is designed to be used throughout the year and the covered seating area is a key element. Described by Phillip as Californian bungalow-style, this covered space includes built-in merbau timber seating and decking, and a fire pit for chilly evenings. Behind the seating is a privacy screen comprised of vertical timber slats.

Water plays a crucial role in the design, and that means more than the tiled lap pool and spa which hug one boundary wall. There is a 360-degree water feature that spills out into a fish pond to create a really nice entrance view as you wander in, says Phillip.
